About Us & Our Favorite 20th Century Recipe

My name is Adriana and I'm a student attending CSULB. My major is Asian Studies with a minor in Japanese. I am taking an American history class in order to fulfill one of my GE requirements. In the class we have learned about various era's of modern American history. For our class we created a website to educate our classmates about the changes and advancements in the American food industry. I worked on the advancements in kitchen appliance and how the modern kitchen affected Americans lives.  I helped to contribute to our site by writing up the background about the American Kitchen and Kitchen Utensils as well as writing one analysis of a primary source document. I was also in charge of design the website and creating the layout. Our group worked together to contribute both primary and secondary sources on our topic of food and the various subgenres. Additionally, we worked together to help review each other’s analysis.

My name is Chelsea S. and I am currently a sophomore at California State University, Long Beach, working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science and hoping to get into a Pharmacy school. I am taking Recent American History to fulfill my General Education requirements and to gain a basic understanding of how the United States became what it is today. This digital history project is to not only further my knowledge on a subject I care passionately for, but to help other students relate to some important facts on fast food and it's affect on the nutrition of the United States population. My contribution to the website is mostly information, sources and anaylsis concerning the history of fast food and how it influenced the nation. For the group, we equally contributed to the primary sources in our archive, the information of the background, and all of the further learning links.

My name is Jesse P., and I am a second year student attending Cal State Long Beach.  I am currently pursuing my major as a Computer Engineer and am taking History 173 as a general education requirement course.  Although I do Computer Engineering I've always been fond of History.  The subject has taught me so much about the past and how everything then made the world into what it is now.  With that in mind, I studied for this website/project the advertisement of food starting from the 1950's to recent 2000's (2008) and talk about how over time, methods and marketing changed towards specific demographics.  Everyone in our group contributed fairly towards the site in terms of primary, secondary and analysis of our respective parts.  Enjoy the site and hope you learn from this just as we did!

Austin

My name is Austin O. and I am a first year at CSULB, looking to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. History 173 is a required GE toward my major. However, history has always been one of my favorite subjects. I love that many things in history are not concrete. You can always make an argument, and try to plead your case. Our group is putting together this website to teach anyone who stumbles across our informational website. The topic is Food and its changes during the last 50 years; we hope you enjoy the information. For this project I completed the analysis on cookbooks as well as the access to different foods. As a group we all collaborated as a whole on the further learning, arhcives, and background. Each and every one of us contributed an equal amount of work to this project. I completed the background on cookbooks, my analysis was on cookbooks and changes of food over time, as well as links for the archive and further learning pages. Overall the project work was delegated equally.
